About the Project
This resource was developed as part of a project led by IPFCC and funded by the New York State Health Foundation. The purpose of this project, was to develop and disseminate resources for establishing patient and family faculty programs within academic medical centers (AMCs). Specific goals of the project were to:
- Build an understanding of the state of patient and family faculty programs in AMCs
- Develop patient and family faculty training resources that prepare patients and family members to participate as faculty and clinical educators and others to collaborate with patient and family faculty
- Plan and conduct testing of patient and faculty training resources with teams of clinical faculty and patient and family faculty trainees
- Disseminate a set of training resources to facilitate the spread of patient and family faculty programs across New York and beyond
About IPFCC
The Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care (IPFCC)
IPFCC is a nonprofit organization that has worked since 1992 to advance the understanding and practice of patient- and family-centered care in all settings where individuals and families receive health care and support. IPFCC’s work envisions a health care system in which patients and families are meaningful partners in improving health care quality, reducing harm, addressing inequities, and achieving better health outcomes. IPFCC accomplishes its mission through training and technical assistance; educational events; development of resources for the field; and research. IPFCC’s work is guided by the core concepts of patient- and family-centered care (PFCC): dignity and respect, information sharing, participation, and collaboration. These same core concepts define our approach to partnering with health care professionals and leaders, patients and families, foundations, research organizations, professional associations, medical schools, and government agencies to accomplish the goals of PFCC.
